I’m a chronicler of ordinary characters, weather worn objects, private worlds, and awkward moments. Whether painting beleaguered protagonists or ragged still lifes, my aim is to create an uncertain and open ended narrative. Often set in dilapidated neighborhoods and modest interiors, these characters operate on the fringes of society, scribbling conspiracy theories, grimacing, or staring. Sometimes they gather objects and pictures of private significance, and arrange them into strange tableaus. To paint these things, allows me to think about their color, shape, texture, and meaning. How does this religious pamphlet relate to this anthropomorphic stick? What does this plaintive face have in common with that water stained drywall?
